Thread: The Hunger Games

So I was thinking about reading the books before actually watching the movie... I don't think it'd spoil the movie for me and in my opinion it'd give me some insight.
Has anyone read them? Are they good? Has someone read them before the movie came out? Is it worth it?

I am a firm believer in "books before movies".. Its always best.. I havent read any of these yet, but I hear they are very good.

I couldn't agree more! I always try to read the books before watching the movies mostly because a movie lasts just one hour and a half or two hours tops and naturally the writers can't include every little detail in a movie script, so a big part of it goes missing.

I tried to buy the books but they're sold out! I guess I'm gonna have to wait to read them, and then watch the movie!

The great thing here is that the author helped with the screenplay and made the story more circular. The movie added things that the book was not able to tell, as the book was written in first person, and the movie in third.

I am a firm believer in reading the books before the movie. In fact, I refuse to watch movies based off of a novel that I haven't yet read. I don't think it will ruin the movie for you at all, quite the contrary actually. I believe it will help you understand what is happening in each scene. You see the worst part about making a movie based off a book is the fact that sometimes somewhere in the transition from novel to film, very basic and important parts are cut out. That can make the movie harder to follow and at times creates less of an impact. Sometimes, the best parts are also cut out, and it's a shame to not experience those. I think you should read the books first, that way when you do get around to watching the movie, you will be able to get the full experience.

I have not read the books, but I heard they are amazing. I wanted to start reading the books but did not have a chance. I saw the movie and thought it was great. I can't wait for the second movie to come out. Reading the books is still on my list of things to do. If you have started or finished reading any of the books let me know how they are flor.

The books are good, not the type of book that you highlight some passages, but quite entertaining still. I really got into it and I think you should read them to get a better experience when watching the movie, which also has the same writter as a consultant and allows to open the perspective of the narration, allowing to check events that the book that not cover as the main character is not present when they are happening.

I agree. It was entertaining. I always read the book first and compare the book version to the movie version. Majority of the time the book wins the competition.

You have all gotten me in the mood to want to go out and read the books. I am going to look them up today and see if I start buying the series. I have been wanting to read a good book lately!!
