    If the Literary translation category is created poems should be posted in this section for sure...Has anybody heard of the Haiku verse?

    Yes! That's Japanese writing style... they're poems consisting of 3 lines, of 5, 7 and 5 syllables each, in that order, generally related to nature and similar topics.
    I used to be the "Haiku Queen" at high school... long funny (embarrassing) story.

    An example:

    La rosas rojas
    desbordantes de vida
    al sol descansan

    Un gran poeta de nuestra lengua, el uruguayo Mario Benedetti, tiene un libro de este g&#233;nero, llamado "Rinc&#243;n de haikus" (no es lo mejor que ha hecho, en mi opini&#243;n, pero es interesante). Escribe, don Mario: <<Encerrar en 17 s&#237;labas ( y adem&#225;s, con escisiones predeterminadas), una sensaci&#243;n, una duda, una opini&#243;n, un sentimiento, un paisaje, y hasta una breve an&#233;cdota, empez&#243; siendo un juego.
    Pero de a poco uno va captando las nuevas posibilidades de la vieja estructura. As&#237; la dificultad formal pasa a ser un aliciente y la brevedad una provocativa forma de s&#237;ntesis.>>
    algunos ejemplos del libro:

    si en el crep&#250;sculo
    el sol era memoria
    ya no me acuerdo


    por si las moscas
    hay profetas que callan
    su profec&#237;a


    despu&#233;s de todo
    la muerte es s&#243;lo un s&#237;ntoma
    de que hubo vida


    la mariposa
    recordar&#225; por siempre
    que fue gusano

    yes, I found the definition too... hey, Thomas... any author of tankas to recommend? (I'm not sure I've read any)

    hi, sabrina,

    the difference is the amount of verses: haikus have 17 syllables in total, distributed in 3 lines (5, 7, 5 syllables each, in that order) and tankas have 5 lines (5, 7, 5, 7, 7).
