Default Compatiblity between Trados 2007 and Trados 2009

    Hello
Does anybody have exprience with Trados 2009? I have an inx file that needs to be translated with Trados 2007 Tag editor. However, the editor has Trados 2009. Do you know if the editor can make changes on a ttx file with Trados 2009? Are these two versions compatible?

mmm, no idea about that. In the seminar I did, that question was made to the instructor and it´s supposed to be compatible, but they didn´t explain how.
and why don´t you send the ttx file translated? to see if your editor can open that fille? or, ask him/her which formats come in the pull down....
    anyone knows?

that's a good idea. The editor should be able to tell you (and all of us here!) if TTX shows up when opening the file.
I attended the webinar as well and I agree with AnaLaura - the compatibility issue with 2007 and previous versions was not at all clear.

Even though 2009 does not generate TTX files it can open them and translate them. When the review is done the editor can save it back as TTX from the native sdlxliff, the same way it can be done with Word or Excel files.

So I guess they are compatible. I'll try to find out how to save it as ttx.
    Thanks

And do you know it we can do the other way round? That is, can a translator with Trados 2009 translate the inx document and someone with Tag editor 2007 edit it?

Yes, if the translator saves the package back to the original format you can receive a translated INX file to work with TagEditor.

Just to add some help for anyone finding this thread.

There is a TTX Compatibility Guide available here - How to work with the translation supply chain with SDL Trados Studio 2009 In addition to this it is worth looking at the Migration Guide that is available under Documentation in the Programme Menu for SDL Trados Studio 2009 when you install it or in KB Article #2783 - Session Timeout

Two other useful applications that are freely available on the SDL OpenExchange are:

SDL XLIFF Converter for MS Office : http://tinyurl.com/sdlxliffconverter
    SDL TTX It : http://tinyurl.com/ttxit

The first one is great for proofreading in word and then importing the changes back into Studio again, and the second for converting files to TTX before you start work on them in Studio (if you have to provide a TTX to your end client).

    Regards

    Paul
