    Default Embiggen

A made-up word from a 22-year-old 'Simpsons' episode has finally made it into the dictionary

Merriam-Webster added the word "embiggen" to its pages on Monday, the dictionary giant announced, culminating a 22-year journey to mainstream acceptance for the word that originated on a "Simpsons" episode.

It's silly. Who actually uses that word? Besides, other dictionaries have not included it.
I get prompts like... did you mean 'bigger', 'embitter', 'embolden'?

I agree. I think all of these new "words" are silly but I'm not in charge. If I were I'd make the inventors stand and read aloud War and Peace until they dropped from exhaustion. I think the fact that the word came from an episode of The Simpsons tells us something.

Well, The Simpsons is culturally significant, I'm not surprised at all

And I'm not surprised that The Simpsons is culturally significant. That was my point.
