    Default "Poor though he was..."

I was going through my old English study books and found this weird sentence structure: Poor though he was, he managed to go to college.
Anyone familiar with that? It's British English right? I never heard it in the US

    Hi nabylm,

It's in the same vein as "Althouh unusual, it is not unheard of."

I think it is a more literary or poetic manner of writing but is sometimes used in flowery speech as well: "Unaccustomed as I was to giving speeches, I nonetheless made an effort".
