It means that they ask you what do you need to have to someone pay you

its correct, is the expected payment amount, informally they changes "how much" whit "What"

I have never seen that question in that way, using WHAT. Sound quite weird for me.

The whole question is weird for me. I would not ask "What would you need to get pay". Anyways if I had to translate this I would say in a very literal way "¿Qué monto necesita que se le pague?".

if they ask me "What would you need to get pay?" I would respond "Cash" jajaja

That's a pretty common way of saying it but not writing it. If you were conversing with somebody you would know immediately what they were asking. "To get paid" is a verb form and is not at all unusual in place of "to earn".
Examples: 1. When I worked there I got paid $40K a year...or I used to get paid $40K...
2. What did you get paid?...or how much did you get? 3. We got paid weekly. 4. If you got the job what would you expect (or need) to get paid (in salary)? 5. I need to get paid at least $40K a year in order to maintain my lifestyle....etc, etc.
