    Default "dwelling" in Spanish?

    Hola,

I am translating a marketing questionaire and i have to translate "What type of dwelling do you live in?"

Would it be "En qué tipo de domocilio Ud. reside? Apartamento o condominium/casa particular/ Otto"?

Any help would be gratefully received!

    Gracias,

    John

    I would say:
¿En qué tipo de vivienda reside usted? Apartamento o condominium/casa/ Otro"?

apartamento: it sounds to me a bit Mexican. I would say departamento

    condominium
    : if you mean
    http://www.google.com.ar/images?hl=e...og&sa=N&tab=wi
    the word could be edificio

casa particular: the adjective particular is used in this case to diferentiate it from offices, and shops. I would just say casa

    Hope it helps!

Well I got the Spanish translation of "What type of dwelling do you live in?", The translation of this is

"¿Qué tipo de vivienda vive usted?".

"¿En qué tipo de vivienda vive?"

In Spain that would be the best way of saying it.

    Regards.

Sí, pero el pronombre usted es necesario en la pregunta para darle formalidad y aunque no es muy lógico en este caso también para evitar ambigüedad, pues la forma vive no solo aplica para usted sino también para él y ella.

¿En qué tipo de vivienda vive usted?

apartamento: it sounds to me a bit Mexican. I would say departamento

En Vzla. decimos apartamento for apartment y departamento la usamos para referirnos a una subdivisión de una organización o institución.

This is such a great resource that you are providing and you give it away for free. I love seeing websites that understand the value of providing a quality resource for free. It’s the old what goes around comes around routine.
