Thread: Translate "comeback"

"Comeback" is a commonly used word in sports in English, for example, "Top ten comebacks of all time." However, I don't know of an equivalent in Spanish for the word "comeback" or the phrase, "top ten comebacks." "Recuperación" just doesn't seem to work in my mind. Any ideas?

In sports, as well as showbusiness, two possible translations would be "vueltas triunfales" o "grandes regresos".

This is one of those terms that seem not to have a direct equivalent, and therefore have to be substituted by a brief phrase depending on the context in hand and/or whether it's used as a noun or verb. Yours here is of course that of a noun.

Words that come to mind are:

resurgir/resurgido
de regreso, que regresan
que aparecen de nuevo
volver a la palestra

Gardner...as a Gunner, I still remember that quite painful Saturday from a couple of months ago when Newcastle forced a 4-4 draw inflicting my beloved Arsenal a serious wound. I would say that "recuperación" is not a bad choice at all! Cheers, Gentle

Thanks all. This is all very helpful. Gentie you might help with the football side of this as you have helped linguistically. I'm looking for great football comebacks, but probably more from a Latin American perspective and was wanting to google that in Spanish, but without the equivalent word for "comeback." Someone suggested I use an even more painful and recent example from your perspective, Arsenal's first match against Barcelona, but being down 1-0 doesn't seem to make that big of a comeback for Barcelona. Also, I prefer a great Latin American comeback. Your link will be helpful.
