    Default books for children

Pero un dia a alguien se le ocurrió no sólo podar sino cortar sino un árbol completo.

the above sentence is from a childrens book I am preparing for a couple of teachers to use when teaching the little guys to sopeak Spanish. In the process I am teaching myself. I have the word for word translation from Google Translate but it makes no sense. Iḿ going to need a thought fro thought translation. The book is El Algarrobo Magico and this sentence is on página 4.

Mucho gracias, amigos from a gringo.

    Hello Bill,

Do not trust any online translator, especially to translate important documents or to teach Spanish.

Pero un día a alguien se le ocurrió no sólo podar sino cortar un árbol completo.

    Regards,

    Regards,
I appreciate your concern but you do understand that you just told me to give up trying to learn spanish, don't you? Actually, if makes every cow in Texas hair lipped I'm going to get this done. I came here looking for friendship and help, not trouble or useless answers. When I commanded men in Vietnam and they had a problem, I got them a cold beer out of the Hold in my chopper, sat them down and talked to them. I never told not to do something without telling them what to do instead!

    Hello Bill,

I apologize for the misunderstanding. What I meant to tell you was to be cautious with online translators since they are not always accurate. (And I think you noticed it, because you mentioned that the word for word translation you got from Google made no sense.)

I did try to help you by underlining the mistakes in your Spanish phrase, and corrected them; I honestly do not understand what kind of answer you expected.

    Hello Bill,

For what I understand now you need the Spanish to English translation, not inglés al español.

    Here it is:

But one day someone came up with the idea of not just pruning a tree, but cutting it down.

Yes, there is a general Spanish to English forum where you can post next time.

    Que tengas buen día,

    Xóchitl (Socheel)
