Hi there! I'm translating a garden catalog, and I came across this term in relation to garden hoses. Can anyone explain its meaning?

This appears in a section entitled "Areas of application", which describes the areas where you can use the product (i.e., a specific hose). Below is an example:

"Areas of application: market gardens, industry, building sites, town councils, intricate garden designs and sweeping gardens".

For the time being, I am translating it as "limpieza de jardines", since "sweep" means "barrer".

¡Hola! ¡¡Muchas gracias a todos!!! Resultó ser que el original que estaba traduciendo venía del alemán (era una traducción del alemán al inglés), por eso sonaba extraña la expresión. Luego, descubrí que "sweeping" estaba usado en este sentido: "extending over the whole range or a great space". Así que terminé traduciéndolo como "jardines extensos".

I've never heard the phrase but I am not a gardener. Here is a link to an article entitled "Sweeping Garden Trend" but I am not sure if the term means an ongoing trend to establishing a sweeping garden, or if it means a trend toward establishing gardens that is sweeping the nation or the world.

I think you have made the correct translation since the text refers to places where the hose can be used, so, sweeping gardens seems to refer a type of garden, and I would interpret it to mean a garden spread over a wide, expansive area.

However, I am confused by the term "town councils". I never heard of a hose being used on a town council, which in my area is a meeting of the local councilmen and citizenry.???? Maybe the hose is used to quiet the crowd if they become unruly.

Lo interpreté como uso en espacios verdes dependientes de organismos municipales, pero también me sonaba raro... Consulté algunas cosas importantes con una colega de alemán, pero tampoco podía abusar de su buena voluntad.

Igualmente, con tiempo, voy a buscar qué decía en el original en alemán y les cuento...
