How do you translate "gender equity"? I was told "igualdad de género" is wrong. Please advise.
How do you translate "gender equity"? I was told "igualdad de género" is wrong. Please advise.
I have heard it as "equidad de género", I think "igualdad de género" is less common than "equidad de género".
P.B.
Thank you so much Pao!
Base on a quick google research I found:
"equidad de género" 2.300.000 hits
"igualdad de género" 11.900.000 hits
however, it sounds more familiar to me saying "equidad de género", oraganizations like UNDP and ILO use both, at least on the short research I did, so I would say we could use them as synonyms, depending on the target audience.
Hope this helps!
Cheers!
Hey everyone, I agree with guillermol, I believe that either igualdad or equidad will actually depend on the target audience. Igualdad however, is more commonly used in countries like Argentina, Uruguay and Chile.
Even though these two are usually used as synonyms, they have a distinct connotative meaning, but in this particular case you may use both.
Cheers,
According to UN termbase, both "equidad" and "igualdad" are accepted.
