    We have a saying: to pull oneself up by one's own bootstraps which means to achieve success with no help from others. To do it on your own.

    In a business context bootstrapping usually refers to a business that has been successfully started with no outside sources. So a bootstrapped company is one that has little or no debt to lenders or investors.
