Default the doctrines which she affected

Hola. ¿Qué significa "affected" en el siguiente texto?: Though she bore the reputation of being a witch, I ascertained subsequently her proclivities were methodistical, and that she refrained from public worship, not merely because of her scanty wardrobe, but also because there was no church in the neighbourhood of the doctrines which she affected.
    Gracias por vuestra ayuda.

Antonio: In this context affect means “to pretend” or “to assume”; she was a person affecting (pretending) a doctrine which she didn't really adhere to, or a doctrine that did not exist.
