Thread: ¿Football es fútbol?

In my opinion, football refers to American football or fútbol americano. (Fútbol is called soccer in the U.S.)

So if I were translating "football" I would call it "fútbol americano"...unless I KNEW it was a reference to soccer or fútbol.

Estefaniar, do you mean the third definition..."political football"? That's a fairly common phrase in the U.S. It's a little like "a hot potato"...like a controversial subject that no one wants to address.
