Hola. ¿Cómo traduciríais "I happened to hear" en el texto que pongo a continuación?: Before Mrs. Waldrum left, she could not get a servant for love or money to stay a night in the house. Gentle, yo diría POR FIN, más que AL FINAL. Con el resto estoy también de acuerdo

Estoy de acuerdo con gentle y no usaría por fin, ya que tiene cierta connotación de cansancio ante una situación, que no se presenta en el source.

Estoy de acuerdo con estefania y gentle. Lo de "happen to" le da esa idea de "de casualidad", algo no intencionado.

¡Coincido con vicente! El uso de finalmente es apropiado siempre y cuando no haya otros adverbios terminados en -mente​ ni otros adjetivos que rimen.
