    Hi all,

    I was just reading up and came upon this thread, which I find quite interesting! I'm no translator, though I would like to add my opinion to what seems to be making such loud noise here in this forum.

    All that Danecao wanted was to know, what does " Cacho carbon" mean in spanish? and what does "Cabrón! ¡Cabrón!" mean ?

    Danecao, has never used these words against no one in this forum, he as myself and among other people come to this forum to ask for some help. Correct me if I'm wrong but is this not a translation forum??

    As professionals that you all are, you should all use this site for putting your skills in practice. Is this not what you all majored for?

    Imagine, here I am a criminal lawyer defending hard core criminals, Now If I, as a lawyer started having scruples on what my clients tell me, I would definitely be on social welfare.

    My job is to defend criminals, NOT to judge what they have done. Your job as translators is to translate, not sensor words or judge what has been given or asked to do.

    Obviously, you all have a choice in excepting or not to do the task, may it be translating or defending...to each his/her opinion wether to accept or not!

    I do not intend to get into an argument with you since I don't really see your point here but I would like to explain a few details to help you understand.
    As professionals that you all are, you should all use this site for putting your skills in practice. Is this not what you all majored for?
    We don't have to use this site for putting our skills in practice. We all have different jobs (paid for, by the way) to put our skills in practice. This is a site in which we offer help (non-paid for) to people like you and we do it out of pleasure because we know that we are really helping people who really need it. This is not what we all majored for.
    The loud noise, in case you didn't notice was about the use of the foul language in the forum in general, triggered by danecao's post. It was not all about his thread which just happened to start the discussion. I don't remember reading any post saying denacao's thread was meant to be against someone in the forum.
    Your job as translators is to translate, not sensor words or judge what has been given or asked to do.
    You are right, specially if translation is a paid job. So, here we really have the right to choose if we offer help or not.
    Being said all of the above, I would just add, please read the thread again and then you will realize it is not a personal attack against danecao but a discussion among translators about forbidding or not the use of foul language in the forum.

    I am posting here because the other one just got too lonnnnng!

    I for one am very interested in learning how to speak correct, everyday Spanish. Like many, I know when and how to use foul language, but it is still part of the language so I would like to learn the meanings and the contexts of ALL words.

    If this forum is not the place to go for this then so be it. It's just too bad, but I agree it is a touchy subject because there are degrees of vulgarity, like many of you have stated.

    It would be nice if the "bad word" posts could be flagged so as not to offend.
