Hi, I'm new to this forum (this is my first post). I'm new to the Spanish language and am taking Spanish classes at my high school. I have a project where I have to write about my experience at a authentic Spanish restaurant. I just wrote a draft and I know that it is FILLED with errors, but I tried my best. I know that there are a lot of you out there that are native speakers and I would be very grateful if you could help me out with checking my translation:
For my “contacto cultural”, I went to a Nicaraguan and Mexican restaurant. The restaurant is called “El Gallo Pinto”. It was an unforgettable experience!
Originally, I wanted to eat at Gallo Pinto with Titus and John, but I forgot that I had to volunteer at City Of Hope Hospital. While I was volunteering, I was also working on my Spanish homework. The nurses were Mexican, and they helped me learn what to say for my project.
Nosotros mandamosPitahaya, Cacao, Bistek Encebollado, and Pollo en Caldillo. El servicio estaba muy bien. Nostros hablamos en español todo el tiempo. Mi abuela quería decir “tasty”. Ella dijo, “Eh? Mi saloso?”. El camarero dijo, “No, no. ‘Muy sabroso!’ ” Yo leí un libro se llama “Nicaragua”.
In Gallo Pinto, I saw John eating with his parents. I came with my mom and my grandma. We ordered Pitahaya, Cacao, Bistek Encebollado, and Pollo en Caldillo. The service was very good. We talked in Spanish the whole time. My grandmas wanted to say "tasty". She said, "Eh? Mi saloso?" The waiter said, "No, no. 'Mi sabroso!' " I read a book called "Nicaragua".
I selected this project because I like to eat!
Nicaraguan food is very delicious! I do not know many differences between Mexico and Nicaragua, but I learned some things. For example, "Dragonfruit" is popular fruit of Nicaragua. My mom ordered Patahaya and she like it. I experienced the food of Nicaragua, but I learned about the culture too. In Gallo Pinto, the decorations were unique. The differences with the culture of Mexico is that the menu does not offer typical Mexican foods, such as tacos and tamales.
Mi abuela mucho gustó la comida. Ella tengo ochenta y cinco años y come a cabo. Generalmente, ella come comida china. Es un experiencia formidable.
My grandmother really like the food. She is 85 years old and rarely eats out. Generally, she eats chinese food. It was a great experience for her.
¡Yo he aprendido tanto!
I have learned so much! I learned spanish both from the nurses and from Gallo Pinto. Now, I now more phrases to use in a restaurant. I feel that I need to learn more to be ready to speak spanish easily. To be honest, I felt very dumb. I prepared questions before mi trip to Gallo Pinto, but I still was not ready. Though, I felt very immersed in Nicaraguan culture.
I really liked this project and recommend Gallo Pinto to other students.
I know this is very long, so I would be very grateful to whoever will help me out, I'm not doing too well in my class and I could use all the help I can get. It took me almost a whole day to write this and it would be awesome if the effort pays off when my teacher grades it, haha. Thanks!
