Default "he owns his own business"

I'm having a bit of trouble composing a sentence.

I have: "Mario posee su propio negocio" My spanish is very limited so I'm not sure if I'm way off mark here. Any suggestions? Thanks.

    Hi,
I think it's OK. You can also say: "Mario tiene su propio negocio". Within this context, tiene fits more than posee.

    Hope it helps.

    O simplemente:

    Mario tiene un negocio.

It is understood it is his own.

But if you say "Mario es el dueño", it's not understood because you'll ask "the owner of what?" It could be of anything (a car, a house, a computer, etc., it doesn't imply that he's the owner of specifically a business).

edit: 'Tiene su propio negocio' is more formal than 'Tiene un negocio'. What is the context of what you're trying to translate?

That does not sound smooth in Spanish, or there's punctuation missing.
