The correct English is:
I want to go to the theatre.
Wanna is unacceptable slang.
"Wanna" is not a word. It is just a quick way of saying "want to" You'll see "wanna" mostly on titles to songs and movies.
Yeah.
Wanna is "want to" as gonna is "going to"
It's not slang, just contractions in everyday speaking.
So, answering your question, the formal way of saying it is I want to go to the theatre and the informal/everyday language way is I wanna go to the theatre
Regards.
Sweetcamy - While there are many contractions in English, "wanna" is not one of them. "Wanna" is a movement in the language toward a dialect. For example, in the American south one will hear the term “y’all” when the speaker meant to say “you all” or all of you – not in the sense of your head and toes and elbows (the various parts of you) but in the sense of the assembled company.
Well, when they taught me English they said that wanna was the contraction of want and to. Maybe contraction is not the appropriate word, but what I wanted to say is that implies more than one word. Just that.
It's not quite a formal contraction. As someone said previously, it's more of a dialect thing.Originally Posted by sweetcamy
OK. I was just saying that it was the 2 words together, and I also said that contraction maybe wasn't the correct word to call it either.

No problem.
