    Default Imperfect Question

I'm doing a project and have a question on one of my sentences, if I wanted to say, "The dog was big." would imperfect apply to this? I know it is for past conditions and such. So would this be right?
    El pero era enorme

    Thanks!

"El perro era enorme" it´s O.K.
However, literally "el perro era grande", but the tense is correct

    "El perro era...." is correct.
Isn't the Spanish Pretérito Imperfecto the same as Simple Past in English?
