Thread: "Chapter Membership"

Hi all,

I am formatting some materials that we had professionally translated. I am particularly concerned about one phrase and am not sure how to deal with it.

The English said:
Hospital Division Chapter Membership Meeting Reports

The translation was:
Informes de Reuniones de miembros de los capítulos, División de Hospitales

and alternately (yes, she was inconsistent)
Informes de Reuniones de la Matrícula de los Capítulos de la División de Hospitales

I guess I am uncomfortable with this use of "capítulos"--I looked up the definition of the word in the dictionary of the Real Academia Espanola and feel fairly strongly that chapter in this sense (a section of a larger organization) is incorrect but I am not sure what would be a better term.

But Capítulo in spanish is not inusual. I give you some examples taken from internet:
Capítulo Argentino del Instituto "El Buen Pastor"
El Capítulo Infancia de Periodismo Social, nodo argentino de la Red ANDI América Latina
Capítulo Americano de Cápsula Endoscópica.
So, I would say: Capítulo de Informes de los Miembros de la División de Hospitales

Have you tried using "sección", "departamento", subdivisión"? Since maybe in this case "chapter" is synonym of "branch".

I don´t think so. If the meaning is "branch" why they write Chapter?.
I think in another translation:
Filial
(acording to DRAE: "Said of an organization: That it depends on another main one")

A "filial" is like the same as "branch" from what I know.
