Default Translation required "Stand By Me"

    Hi
I've had a translation done of the phrase "Stand By Me" (as in the song by Ben E King!)

It's for a tattoo so I really don't want to get it wrong! The translations i've been given are -

"Quedate a mi lado" and "quedate conmigo".

Can someone offer up any others or at least confirm that these are OK.

Also... does it make a difference if it is a masculine / feminine translation??? These are matching tattoos - one for me, one for my wife!

    many Thanks

    Quados

Default Re: Translation required "Stand By Me"

Quédate a mi lado - Stay by my side
Quédate conmigo - Stay with me

    Other options
Está conmigo - Be with me
    Acompáñame - Keep me company

All these options are identical either in masculine or feminine.

The main difficulty in finding and exact equivalent in Spanish is that in English the word 'stand' means remain standing (remain erect) and 'stand by' means provide support. This subtle double meaning does not exist in Spanish.

    You might try with

    apóyame

as in "give me your support"

    "Quédate a mi lado"

sounds better for a tatoo, specially if you 2 are doing it...

A big thank you to all you guys for giving me your advice - my wife and I are absolutely chuffed and we'll use "quedate a li lado". I'll try and get photo of the tattoos when they are done!!!!

    Many Thanks

    Paul (and Sarah!)
