    Default Barbilla vs. Mentón

From the references I have found on these two words, they seem to be almost exact synonyms. I doubt that they are, for few words are ever exact. One reference did add the extra detail that la barbilla refers to the tip of the chin.

Is there a distinction between la barbilla y el mentón?

mentón.(Del fr. menton).1. m. Barbilla o prominencia de la mandíbula inferior.(Real Academia Española).

It seems they are perfect synonims.

Los diccionarios no suelen mentir. (Is that correct?)

So, which one is more likely to be used? Menton o Barbilla?

in Argentina we used both, but "mentón" is definitely more common.
Also, I think we use "mentón" mostly to describe the shape of one's chin - I don't think we use barbilla for that.

    Any other opinions?

Just as curiosity here is the title of an article on facial plastic surgery that uses both words:

"Alargar la barbilla y eliminar el doble mentón"

I Agree With Vernonica, Menton Is More Frequent In Argentina.
    Anyway, Both Mean The Same

I had a chat with a girl at work today. She told me that barbilla is used in Texas. Interesting!
