Hola, This is my first post and I am quite thrilled. My question is I am trying to say "before long he became caliph in all but name." I am unsure what to do, but I have "Dentro de poco, el se hizó califa pero en todo sin el nombre. Thank you

I would delete TOTALMENTE and SU leaving the sentence to read thus:

"En poco tiempo se convirtió en califa, en todo menos en nombre."
