Thread: "¿Ya te lo estás pasando bien?"

Spanish-speaking people seem to understand this phrase, but I'm having trouble changing it to "Are we having fun yet?"

We have somthing similar but like that I think the meaning could be different here as well it sounds something like are you swallowing it all right now? And it could have a sexual meaning. In any case we might say

¿Ahora sí te la estás pasando bien? or just ¿Te la estás pasando bien?

In past tense we use it more frequently like

¿Te la pasaste bien?

My opinion though.

El "¿Ya te lo estás pasando bien?" es de uso coloquial principalmente en la península:

• Ya = realmente
• Te = Dativo enfático

En principio, con estos dos datos, no tendrías que tener mayor complicación para entender la frase.

But it is fascinating that there are all different interpretations and they are so localized to different regions- even around the world!

I originally came upon this phrase when searching for the translation of the word fun. And in the US, our phrase would be "Are WE having fun yet?" But of course, the free online translator programs only help a little, as shown above*. And that is where Sandra T's phrase "¿Ya nos estamos divirtiendo?" probably works the best.
