Thread: guitar stand

What on earth do you call a "guitar stand"?

You have finished playing your guitar, but you do not want to put it back into its case. You could put it on a chair, on a table, etc., but the guitar might get scratched. So...you put it on a simple and inexpensive device that holds the guitar upright (vertical). This device usually has three or four short legs, a gadget to hold the bottom of the guitar (soundbox) off the floor and a gadget to hold the neck (brazo) to keep the guitar from falling. These gadgets are quite simple and are covered with a very soft material that will not scratch the guitar.

And what would you call the "music stand" that holds the written music read by a musician while he plays?

I'm spanish and I use the word "soporte" when refering to the guitar stand that you are describing.

Yes, "soporte" is quite right aswell in México, just as "tripié" but every stand with three "legs" is always called "tripié" and Thomas is mentioning that most probably it would have three legs. All those that I've seen myself for holding guitars upright have a triangular base or three "legs" that's why I suggested "tripié".

Callling it soporte is perfect aswell.
