Thread: the clatter of bolts

I am trying to translate this phase from English into Spanish.
The immediate context is:

"I climbed the five flights to her floor, paused to catch my breath, and then knocked. An eye looked through te peephole in the door, there was a clatter of bolts being turned."

My best attempt is: "se oyó el resonar del cerrojo al girar."

Can anybody hep me?

Either pestillo or cerrojo is a correct translation for bolt in this sentence. As the original refers to more than one bolt, I'd say:

"Se oyó el estrépito de pestillos que se abrían."

Aquí sí que me equivoqué. Ignora mi anterior respuesta.
