Thread: "I gave up on them" - ?

Hola,
I have a problem with trying to translate an English expression. I know "me doy," "me doy por vencida," or "me rindo," but how can I work in the idea of giving up on something or someone, not just giving up or ceding? The sentence, more or less, was: "I tried to get them to cooperate but they wouldn't, so I finally just gave up on them."

Is this a different sort of "giving up," and how can I work in the idea of "on them" rather than just giving up in general?

Any help greatly appreciated!

I would say something like: "no insisto más con ellos" meaning that I would not insist any longer, I think that´s the main idea...they will not cooperate, so I stop to insist...

Yo lo traduciría así:
"Intenté que cooperaran pero no lo harían, así que finalmente me cansé de ellos."
Otra opción sería:
"Intenté que cooperaran pero no lo harían, así que me harté de ellos."
