Thread: Quick clothes translation

hi,

i'm trying to say "today i'm wearing navy blue jeans"

is this correct?
"Hoy dia, llevo unos vagueros azul marinos"

or should it be 'azules marinos'

It depends on who are you talking to or where are they from... In Argentina we would just say "jeans azules"...
But if you are going to go with "vaqueros" then it would be "vaqueros azules"

Yup! And also! One thing I forgot.... The correct way of saying that would be "Hoy llevo vaqueros azules" or "Hoy estoy usando varqueros azules"

First of all, "hoy día" (or "hoy en día") is the translation for nowadays. In Spanish, today is translated as "hoy".

The second thing you must take into account is that the expression "navy blue" consists of an adjective modified by a noun, whereas in "azul marino" we find a noun (believe me, here "azul" works as a noun) modified by an adjective. Therefore, "azul marino" is always used in singular, since the concept of "blue" is unique.

Let me explain this:
Hombre orquesta (one-man band) -----> Hombres orquesta (one-man bands) -all one-man bands sound like one orchestra-
País vecino (neighbouring country) -----> Países vecinos (neighbouring countries) -a country is neighbour to another country, while several countries can be neighbours to the aforementioned country-.

I know it sounds quite puzzling, but that's the way it works.

As you might have guessed by now, the right translation would be "Hoy llevo [unos] vaqueros azul marino". In case the jeans are plain blue (and not navy blue), then you're wearing "[unos] vaqueros azules".
