the point is that accountancy is everything ralated to what an accountant does, and here in Argentina, if you go in for Accountancy, and you get your degree, you gradrate as an accountant.

Accountancy might be used in Great Britain, but in the US it is not commonly used. It refers to the profession of being an accountant.

Economics is the social science that studies the production, distribution, and consumption of goods and services (Wiki).

Accounting is dealing directly with the financial aspect of a company---what an accountant does.

If you google university programs, they offer programs in accounting, never accountancy:
    http://www.gsb.stanford.edu/phd/fiel...ing/index.html
    http://www.hbs.edu/units/am/

    You can say:
    I'm an accountant.
    I'm studying accounting.
    I'm in accounting.
    I'm an economist.
    I'm studying economics.
    I'm in economics.
    I'm taking an accounting class.
    I'm taking an economics class.

In the US, you don't use accountancy in these situations. It makes perfect sense, and it's in the dictionary, but it isn't commonly used.

Accountants study accounting (an exact science dealing with the finances of companies).

Economists study economics (a theoretical science looking at global exchange of goods and services and the relative wealth of the countries of the world).

I heard someone say "accountancy" the other day (instead of "accounting") and my ears perked up and I thought of Diegonel. The speaker was from Australia.
