    Default lo grotesco

Mi traducción me parece pobre. Ruego me hagáis llegar vuestras sugerencias.

    The sentence:
Se otorgaba mucha importancia a los gestos, llegando a exagerarlos hasta lo grotesco

    My attempt:

The gestures were very important, and they exaggerated them until being grotesque

    Hey Sol,

It'd be easier to help with some more context...

    Anyway, my version would be:

Gestures were seriously taken into account, even exaggerating them up to gross

    Hope that'll be of help!

I agree that more context would help. I could guess:

They attached a lot of importance to the gestures, even exaggerating them to the point of being bizarre.

    context, context, context

I'm talking about engravings in the seventeenth century. Maybe the previous sentences could help:

An image could be more expressive than the simple reality; the subjectivity of the author hit emotionally and it was a fast and multiple medium to present his works. Gestures were seriously taken into account, even exaggerating them up to gross.

    Thank you in advance

Gernt's translation sounds really good to me. You could also use "grotesque" instead of "bizarre".

Yes, “grotesque” would be much more appropriate for a work of art. For some reason, I was thinking in terms of a stage performance.
