In the English version of the movie , this last line is : " I'm really gonna miss you , Randall" , delivered with some irony .
But I can't see how to get to that from " Te voy a echar de menos , Randall " , which seems to me ..... ' I'm going to thow/put on you lesser/least/ a minus , Randall ' .
What literally does the Spanish mean ?

Actually, the translation of the movie is correct. In Spanish, "Echar de menos" is a way of saying "to miss someone."

If you translate word by word literally, you'd get something like what you wrote put / minus, etc.

But it is rather an idiomatic expression. Echar de menos means to miss someone. Therefore, Te voy a echar de menos , Randall is a good translation. It sounded weird to you because you didn't know the expression, now you do.

In Venezuela we say te voy a extrañar meaning I am going to miss you.

There's probably an etymological history that would shed some light on how "echar de menos" came to mean "to miss someone".
