Text Message
Hi all, Ive recently received a text message from a number that i believe is from Colombia. The message read "porque si no tiene oficio mas bien le timbra ala vieja de su abuela." I believe there may be a typo ("ala" should be "a la") but i don't know if thats what it is supposed to be.

I haven't heard this verb in this way, but the context may indicate that 'As he is down and out he is prone to scrounge his old granny'

I don't know if Usted is not implicit (i.e. the sentence would be "porque si no Ud. tiene oficio..."). If that is the case, I would translate it: "Because if you are down and out, you'd better go ring the bell at your old granny's door".

Since 'timbrar' also refers to a telephone, I think this person is trying to stop someone from calling his/her number.
"If you have nothing better to do, go call (bother) your old grandma".
