In a mathematical context it's usual to say "Assume an element such that ...", or "Take an element ...", or "Let E be any element ...", etc.

Es también muy común expresar hipótesis utilizando claúsulas condicionales con if, verbos modales y adverbios para indicar los distintos grados de posibilidad y probabilidad.
