    I have heard the expression "at the height of his career (battle, etc) " but I just did not see how it could mean "el colmo de".


    but I guess it could mean that if you have
    "at the height of laziness (etc)" or something similar.

    After I read it, it made perfect sense but it would just not be my first choice unless I am writing an essay or book or something rather formal. I would use "to top it all off" in an informal setting.

    I completely agree. I figured we were just looking for alternative or similar phrases and I threw out a few. There's always more than one way to skin a cat, right?
