Default Spanish expressions, do they have English translation?

Actually I should write this in Spanish because I think only Spanish people will understand the meaning of the expressions I want in English. Those are:
-Hacer algo de una vez por todas (that means something like 'To do something at last, after thinking a lot about it')
    and
-Estar a la altura (that means 'To be good enough' but maybe there is a more colloquial way of saying it?)
I don't know if there are English similar expressions, I mean, same meaning, but if there are, I'd thank you very much if you could let me know.
    Thanks!

Y ahora en español, que como es mi idioma y estoy más suelta, iré al grano ^_^
¿Alguien sabe si hay expresiones inglesas similares a las que he puesto arriba? (Hacerlo de una vez por todas y Estar a la altura)
Estoy tratando de escribir una carta en inglés y me gustaría que se viera lo más suelta y coloquial posible, así que os agradezco mucho vuestra ayuda.
    Saludos!

H i!!! Let's see if this can help

Hacer algo de una vez por todas - 'To do something once and for all
    and
-Estar a la altura - to have what it takes, to be suitable for

Truly, my dear young friends, you are a chosen generation. I hope you will never forget it.

    Otra opción
estar a la altura: tambien puedes utilizar: "to be equal to (a person/ a person's task) depende del contexto.

    thanks very much!

SandraT, la frase que quiero traducir es '(...) queríamos escribir algo que estuviese a la altura' (refiriendome a una carta fan a un actor), no sé qué opción es mejor... 'we wanted to write something that had what it takes', eso tiene sentido??

muchas gracias a los dos! ^_^

Si tiene sentido, te pongo otra opcion...

something that would equal his level/acting, perhaps?
