This is a common phrase I've heard, but there is no direct translation. It sort of goes hand in hand with working hard/making an effort.
This expression is used when you ask someone how they are doing, and they reply "echandole ganas a la vida", meaning working hard or making an effort to live (?).
I hope this makes sense, if not, hopefully another member can shine a brighter light on the subject, as it looks like the light I'm lighting is pretty dim!
