"I need to face the ball" is probably the best way to say that.

That's what I found, and he is definitely trying to be diplomatic. With the Aragones-Henry story from a few years back, I can't imagine Arsenal fans are going to simply accept the fact that Spaniards are not racist, but is there a reason for him to say this now (aside from the rumors that he wants to play in Spain)?

Hi Scott Thanks! yeah it all came up because the english FA have refused to play a friendly against Spain at the Santiago Bernabeu stadium because England players were racially abused the last time they played there. The black players received monkey chants every time they touched the ball.

Yeah Cesc is trying to be diplomatic and it's a tough line to walk. To say what the spanish media and fans want and at the same time not say anything to offend the english. The english media are reporting that he said "They see us as racists, but I don't think we are, it's a bit extreme" but I don't think, that is what he said based on the quotes I posted above.

For me, this walks two tough lines: acceptable behavior by fans to get in the opponents' heads and how to define "racism" in different cultures. I think the monkey chants or blatant racial taunting of black players is absolutely unacceptable and appalling, but many would argue that the players should just use it as motivation and running away or acting out your frustration only incentivates the screaming ignorant masses. But some times that is just asking the impossible. Regarding the other issue, it's simply not relevant here (there's no gray area in this matter) and way too broad to start discussing. Thanks for the Fabregas quote, I most likely would have missed it otherwise.

Oh btw I agree no one is going to believe that there aren't racist elements in Spain of course there are as there are everywhere. It is a shame that the many must suffer for the ignorant actions of the few but unfortunately there are limited ways in which sanctions can be used.

I just think that the way Sky are quoting Fabregas is a bit unfair they are only running one quote and claim he says, "They see us as racists, but I don’t think we are, it’s a bit extreme" which is pretty different from "England don't see the spanish as racists" - and I think by that he meant they don't view the whole country that way.

I just get sick of so much media inaccuracy. I am all for hanging people out to dry for the things they say but there should be some effort to actually report what they did say lol
