I think my dad was being mean.
My father's family was mexican and spanish. Growing up, I never knew which word to use for what in front of whom. It didn't help that my mother was from Nicaragua, either.
Needless to say, my Spanish is slightly messed up.
My father had a term for one of my mexican aunts. He would call her "Dona Tiplosa". I've been wondering FOR YEARS what 'tiplosa' means. can I get some help?
Thanks a million.
Re: I think my dad was being mean.
"Tiplosa" = Vulgarismo mejicano = "Engolada"
1. Dicho de la voz, de la articulación o del acento: Que tiene resonancia en el fondo de la boca o en la garganta.
2. adj. Dicho del habla: Afectadamente grave o enfática.
3. adj. Dicho de una persona: Fatua, engreída, altanera.
Re: I think my dad was being mean.
In English:
"Tiplosa" is Mexican slang for one of the following:
1. Someone who speaks with a ringing voice.
2. Someone who speaks sternly, contemptuously.
3. Someone who is conceited, haughty, stupid.
Re: I think my dad was being mean.
:eek:Wow. That's creepy. It's a slight combination of all three, in reverse order in her case. She puts on airs. She doesn't practice what she preaches and doesn't mind lying to you in her face even if you have direct evidence damning her.
Once again, a million thank you's!!!!! I'm glad I found this site and I am sure I'l be using it more and more as time goes by.
