Mando inmediato ante una compañera
Hola!
En esta frase:
"Si el operativo fallaba, si no podía escapar antes de la bomba explotarse, su vida, se había enterado, se consideraría dispensable; se lo había oído murmurar a su mando inmediato ante una compañera".
¿"Mando inmediato" significa "chief"?
Mi intento: "he had heard his chief murmure it to a comrade." ¿Es correcto? ¿O debe ser "he had heard his chief murmure it in front of a comrade"?
"Ante" parece extraño aquí. ¿Se puede traducir como "to"?

Escucho en inglés la frase "immediate commander." Could that be it?

No se. Si decimos "my immediate commander" significa alguien que está más arriba que yo en la jerarquía, ¿no?
Aquí se trata de una organización terrorista. ¿Se puede utilizar?
¿Qué tal del resto de la frase? ¿Quál de las dos opciones es correcta?

Mi intento:
If the operation failed, he could not escape before the bomb blew up. His life, he had discovered, would be considered dispensable; that much had been whispered to his immediate superior in front of a friend.
I assume the friend then warned him.
