Can someone help me understand the use of "ay" in:

Can someone help me understand the use of "ay" in:
Ay venía la Nayeli....
or
Y por ay iba a la Nayeli...
This is a misspelling... the real word is "ahí".
Hope it helps!!!
Yes, Mariacecilia is right... I've seen it way too much in text messages and chats, things like that... It's "ahi", not "ay"!! It makes me nervous when I see it
cheers!
Thanks for the help!
The line comes from Rumbo al hermoso norte by Luis Alberto Urrea. He uses some slang, mostly in dialog, but I get the impression he's narrating in the speaking style of the lugareños of the small town of Tres Camarones.
