This is pretty sad. "Williams sometimes suffered from depression and struggled with drugs and alcohol addiction for much of his career."

There was one newscaster who used the word "coward" in discussing Mr. Williams situation. He later said he didn't mean to say he was a coward for committing suicide.
I don't understand how anyone can judge a person for committing suicide. How is it possible to know the depth of their pain and dispair? How can they say they wouldn't do the same if they suffered as he did?
It's seems strange that many comedians are actually very sad individuals on the inside.

Hollywood is not all that it is made up to be. There are a lot of pressure on artists, directors, etc. Pressure at all levels to do well in whatever they are doing. There is a lot, tons of money at stake.
Just think about it. When someone talks about a movie that was not a good movie, it really means somebody (or many people) did not do a good job and spent millions of dollars in the process.
Imagine the stakes. When was the last time that when you did not do so well at work, half of the population of the planet talks about it?
Bottom line there is a lot of pressure. Not everyone is well equipped to deal with that kind of pressure. Some look at alcohol or drugs as a way out of that pressure.
