I know that buddy is a word used mainly for a male friend of a man. But is there any word used for a female friend?

There are not many words to replace female friend, at least not here in the U.S. One reason might be that women are not prone to use as much slang as men. Another is that in today's world the PC police try to stamp out any word that differentiates male from female. They don't even like "female friend".
Personally, I use the term buddy for some females I consider fairly close friends. I see nothing wrong with calling a female "buddy"; however, I like "mi amiga" because it is friendly and most everybody understands.
You could use "gal-pal" or "girl-bud".

More of a slang thing probably, but "sis" sounds like a good option to me.
It IS a good option. Sorta like "bro". I've heard "sister" used, as well as "girl" when addressing a friend.

Could "gal" be an option too?
¿Y qué ocurre en español? Escucho mucho el término "fiera".
- ¿Qué haces, fiera?
- ¿Qué decís, fierita?
Entiendo que "fiera" podría referirse a una mujer, también.
