That's true, but ever if you consider that, Borat makes a lot of money with less investment than the other movies......Originally Posted by reminder

He calls me and ask me what to do, I told him that I will think it and when I came up with somehting I call him back.. still thinking... I DON'T KNOW! HOW SHOULD I KNOW? HOW SHOULD SOMEBODY KNOW.......Originally Posted by guillaume
But in ceremonies like these, there are no many surprises, they always almost say which celebrity is going to be present.. But I haven't seen the teaser then.. hope someone had some news..
I absolutely agree that the primary purpose of the Academy Awards propaganda, $$$ and on occasion, to make a political statement.
For example, a whole otra cosa: when Crash won. I'm still not sure what to make of that, but another celebrated white cop. We're supposed to feel bad for this racist criminal and perv, and fall in love with him when he saves the same woman he assaulted, at the end of the film. And, we're supposed to feel really bad for his in-training partner who stands by, watches, doesn't do a thing, then kills a guy and leaves him on the side of the road. Who is always on top at the end? omg I'm disgusted just thinking about it.
Well, my point is that movies that propagate stereotypes win Oscars... not the ones that take the raw, obvious and slap the audience in the face with it.
Entonces.
I saw BORAT, and although I was extremely disturbed, I must say that it was hands-down, one of the most funny, ridiculously... nevermind, my stomach hurt when I was done watching it, and I felt like I had to apologize publicly on behalf of my country upon leaving the theatre.
In regards to it winning or even being nominated, por fa! Remember the old guy who ate Borat's wife's milk/cheese? jajajaja... yeah, well, this movie winning the Oscar would be like that guy cracking a smile.
Nunca gonna happen.
Hi Carla, I liked Crash, although I though MAGNOLIA, which is a movie with the same format (the Movie of Coincidences - several stories crossing, or "crashing" into one another), was so much better and it was -obviously- ignored at the Oscars back in 2000.
Back to Crash, I do not think that we are supposed to simpathyse with Dillon's character, I didn't really take it that way. It is just another "coincidence" taken to the extreme, I think.
As for Borat, I LOVED it! Specially the Rodeo scene, when he sings his own version of the US anthem. People went nuts! and yes, it's waaay too politically incorrect for the Oscars.
