danield: Hands down. Friends! I loved all the Characters there. More over I could relate to a lot of the story lines. And oh how they made me laugh and cry. The Big Bang Theory. I love Sheldon...but the others ehhhh not so much. You?
I loved the evolution Penny has had, of not knowing things geek knowing the name of Stark Trek and more ... Friends but is incomparable, so there is no doubt, are a benchmark for TV series. What would you recommend another comedy?
I bet Friends always reached a broader audience because of the fact of telling like "everyday" stories.
Big Bang deals with a very special community of "nerds" from some sort of Ivy League institution. Funny but I always related them to an MIT environment in New England until I recently discovered that they were in California (whether it would be Caltech, Stanford or Berkeley...Who knows!). Also, their approach is totally different as they try to see everything through their scientific "nerdy" looking glass. This derives in very sarcastic comments which are far from being the more plain language displayed in Friends.
On the other hand, I think this sitcom does not only put stress on the intellectual level of its characters, but also on some other more "cosmopolitan" features like Howard's religious links or Raj's ethnic background. I think Friends characters were more homogeneous in this regard.
In any case, I grew up with Friends and it's won a place in my heart already. However, I can't deny Big Bang is on its way to win a share of it, too. I am a firm advocate of shows like these and not other more successful ones that I wish would not be so popular nowadays.
So...Give it up for the whole crew and especially for Penny and their People's Choice Awards! They deserve it! People's Choice Awards 2014 Nominees - PeoplesChoice.com
I do love the relationship that exists between Amy and Sheldon and that between Amy and the rest of the girls in the series, because although it is a comedy gives value to the relationship between individuals and groups of like-minded friends do .
By the way...Anyone remembers Party of Five? It was a nice show, too! In any case, all of them have different perspectives; but, no doubt that's the kind of show I like to watch to take away the stress of a busy day at work.
I remember Party of Five. It was one of my favorite shows. I miss programs like that which taught us to appreciate our lot in life. Today's "reality shows" are horrible.
