Thread: Oscar nom 2009

Hi Everyone,

Here's a thread to discuss Oscar nominations for 2009. Personally, I haven't had the chance to see any of the movies nominated and I'm certainly looking foward to "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button", "Slumdog Millionaire", "Milk" and "The Reader".
Any other recommendations?

Are they planning to nominate Brad Pitt as best actor? I mean, come on! He was nominated to the Guild Awards. He's seems like a nice guy and all but... c'mon!

Anyways, let's not forget "Crash" was chosen as the best movie of some year... anything can happen.

Gabriel! His being cute doesn't mean that he can't act! I actually don't like Brad Pitt that much, but I do think he's a great actor (think 12 Monkeys, Seven, Legends of the Fall!)

I don't think we have to judge a book by its cover, so I don't think his nomination has to do with the fact he's just cute. He's had some good performances as mvitoria has pointed out.

As far as Brad Pitt goes, I'm not crazy over him physically either, but I do think he has done some good acting, Legends of the Fall was great, and I loved Meet Joe Black! As for Sean Penn, I saw a documentary where he spoke about the making of Into the Wild (one of the last movies he directed, very very good movie) and he said he doesn't enjoy acting anymore, which is a shame because he is so good at it, but so we better enjoy the little of it he does!

And back to the movies nominated, I've only seen Slumdog Millionaire, and I agree it's worth the nominee...but I don't have a say for the rest yet.

Hi Belen!
I saw it yesterday...nice movie but kinda slow in some parts...
I still recommend it.
And I agree with most of you... Brad Pitt is good and deserved his nomination it has nothing to do with him being cute.
I'm not sure about the best actress award... I haven't seen ANY of the movies... have you?
