    Default Inglorious Basterds

did anyone see this film? Tarantino's films are usually just OK for me, but I heard this one is pretty good. Any critics/opinions?

    Hi Victoria!!!

I saw it at the movies, and it was pretty shocking, in my opinion... It had some funny scenes, some sad ones... I liked it!! Not my favorite, have to say, but it was good!

    Have you seen it??

The dialogue was EXCELLENT. The two best scenes, in my opinion were in (1) the farmhouse and (2) the bar. The German officer was the epitomé of good manners, charm, humor, and gentlemanly behavior. He was also a cold blooded killer. Murder was his business, and business was good. His conversation with the farmer about the unaccounted for Jewish family was matched only by the later conversation in the bar among entirely different characters. As the men sat around the table talking about accents, beer, and good times, everyone knew a lot of people were going to die within a few moments, and everyone hoped that somehow he would be among the very few survivors...if anyone survived. I remember watching this film several times at different theaters in Bolivia. That was over two years ago. I haven't seen it now for about...ten days. Yes, I am still watching it. Some scenes are so gross that I keep a barf bag by my side during viewing "por siaca". I haven't upchucked yet, but I may someday.

I agree with Thomas, the dialogues in this movie are superb! And the opening scene, in my opinion, together with The German Officer's performance, are the best of the whole movie. The suspense on that scene, I was sitting on the edge of my seat for the whole half an hour (long scenes, yes). I really enjoyed it. It is bloody too, yes, but it has some magnificent funny scenes. I highly recommend it.

Had an Austrian girlfriend. It came out that her grandfather had been in the Sicherdienst. She assured me he had not been in the Gestapo. I didn't have the heart to tell her the SD was worse that the Gestapo. The SD would identify people for the Gestapo to arrest. He must have been quite a character. When he was ordered to shave off his moustache, he said that if Hitler could sport one, so could he. LOL I had to love his logic and guts. Captured by the Russians, he was cut loose after about two years for helping a Jewish doctor save lives during an epidemic. Since the survival rate for an SS POW was about 5%, the early release and return to Austria certainly saved his life. The girl's father had been in the Hitler Jugend. Fortunately, he was considered too young to fight when the Russians took Vienna. The family had buried these things, keeping them secret, until I started asking questions. I was pleased to be thanked for getting them to talk about the past. People generally believe what they are told, and they had been lied to by a madman. And it is not like the girl's dad had a choice when it came to joining the Hitler Jugend. He was only 13 when Vienna fell.

    Yes, quite a movie!

One of Tarantino's worst films in my book. Went to see it at the movies and fell asleep half way through it.

I started watching it but for whatever reason could not get into it. I enjoy Quentin's films a lot. This one didn't hold my attention at all. Might be worth trying again after reading the reviews here. We'll see....
