Yes TopNotch, I entered a few days ago and I found it's very professional.

I was looking for help with some problems with Wordfast and I entered to the discussion group (in Spanish). Additionally, there is a group in which you can subscribe in order to receive job alerts, of course only for Wordfast users. There isn't too much movement (at the moment, only three or four offers) but it's another open door.

Thank you for opening this thread.

Hi guys I am seriously thinking about investing in a CAT tool. Iit’s about tine that I get one .I do not run a translation company: so I would use it for personal independent assignments Do you recommend wordfast? Which one do you think I should get?. I would really appreciate any advice on this

    Hi Hebe,

I'd recommend you Trados (now SDL International) because it allows you to work with several file formats while Wordfast only supports MS Word files.
You may want to download a trial version and check it out!

As almost all the translations I do are in Word format, I like Wordfast. The second kind of format I translate is Power Point, but I use ppt Helper. Both are simple, cheap and easy to use tools, but enough for a high quality job.

Trados is a little more complicated (I tested it, I didn't buy it), but if you work for translation agencies, think that many of them ask you to use Trados. Anyway, you can export and import TM from Trados to Wordfast.

On the other hand, many agencies ask you a discount for repetitions. But this is another story...

Thank you so much Julio: Sounds as if wordfast has all the features I look for (easy to use and cheap). I don’t do independent work for agencies. I work for a Firm and I just want to make my job a bit easier. I heard TRADOS requires training which I don’t have much time for. Would it also be the case of wordfast?
    Best regards

Hi everyone! Trados is a good program, and it's not complicated if you know Wordfast, but it is really expensive, and I think it comes with SDLX now as a pack. TagEditor from Trados can handle almost any file, I recommend it.
