Have you tried Kilgray's instructions for preparing Illustrator files? They worked fine in memoQ when I tried them, but I've been told that they don't work that well when the Illustrator file goes as .svg to other CAT tools.
From my point of view, memoQ is a CAT tool that is still evolving: it lacks some of the most powerful features from Trados, but at the same time it boasts some other that Trados does not have (LiveDocs, for example). It also focuses more on the project manager.
I really think they can come up with something better than Trados in the future.
Is MemoQ free or paid?
It has a demo version of around 30 days with limited options. It has to be paid after that period.
I'd say that memoQ stronger than Trados. It's just a matter of market penetration. As Maximiliano said, you notice how useful it is as a project manager.
