Default I bet you like reading as well

One of my true passions in life is reading....and of course, when I can, I try to read books in their original language. This is not always possible, but here's a list of some of my favourite foreign language books, which I treasure at home, and was able, to read without translation.

I have some in german waiting for me to learn the language!

    What about you?

    Cheers

    Marcos

    Les Miserables (Victor Hugo)
    The Three Musketeers (A. Dumas)
    After the divorce (Grazia Deledda)

    Hi there!

After adding this thread to the forum, I started checking at home which books I had in foreign languages, so here you have some more I really enjoyed and I keep wherever I move:

The name of the rose (Umberto Eco)
Christ Stopped at Eboli (Carlo Levi)
    The Alchemist (Paulo Coelho)
    Blindness (José Saramago)

    Hi Marcos,
What an interesting topic! Definitely we do share this passion and I see we have one in common, The Alchemist.
Here I share some of my beloved ones:

    Macbeth (William Shakespeare)
    Sense and Sensibility (Jane Austen)
    The hours (Michael Cunningham)

    Regards!

    Hey guys, here's my "home-pick":

    1984-George Orwell
    Ask the dust-John Fante
The 7 Harry Potters (of course)+ The 3 Lord of the rings (of course agian)
    The Dharma Bums- Jack Kerouac
    Lettres persanes-Montesquieu
    Discours de la méthode- Descartes
    etc etc....

I totally agree with you analaura, reading a book in its original language is completely different from reading its translation, even though most translations are extremely accurate.

Cool Re: I bet you like reading as well

    Hi guys!

Wow! you made me remembers such amazing books!! I know when we all first start with a language it takes a lot of time to "get there" in terms of being comfy with our reading, but I think is worth it right?

Nabylm, look at you! Montesquieu, Descartes!!! Are you from France?

Lorenac, I love Jane Austen as well, also Charlotte Bronte!!

Analaura, I adooooore The picture of Dorian Grey, both the book, which I read when I was like 12, and the old black and white movie

hehe, I know nabylm, I wish I could read french as you do, that's all....reading Victor Hugo's Les Mis was a huge effort...I'm not at a Descartes level for sure.

Más allá del éxito de la serie Juego de Tronos, me gusta leer en detalle cada uno de los libros, que fueron traducidos a más de 45 idiomas:

    The Princess and the Queen
    The Rogue Prince
    A Game of Thrones
    A Clash of Kings
    A Storm of Swords
    A Feast for Crows
    A Dance with Dragons

Que bueno, yo debo admitir (y más de uno me va a querer matar, jajaja) que solo vi un capítulo de la serie y no leí ninguno de los libros YET)
